Friday (October, 7th) at 8.30pm at AYVA Center, Houston. Margareth Menezes, Brazilian singer, will be live playing songs of her recently released DVD “To Gil and Caetano”, honoring the two greatest Brazilian musicians, plus the best hits of her almost 30 years old career.
The event is brought by the Brazilian Foundation; produced by BRZ Productions and Next Brazilian Productions, and celebrates the presence of the Brazilian community in the region. Part of the ticket sales will contribute to the cancer treatment of Camille Zanoello, a 10 years old Brazilian girl, that has glioblastoma multiforme grade IV, a tumor that affects important commands of the human body like motor coordination, vision and hearing and the Brazilian Foundation 2016 Scholarships.
Margareth is a Brazilian singer that started her artistic career in Salvador, Bahia State’s Capitol (Northeast of Brazil) known of combining Brazilian and African cultures.
Margareth Menezes’ international tour this year highlights her famous songs played all over the World, and a tribute to Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, two singers that represented the “Tropicalia”, a main music movement brought together by many kinds of songs and fought against the dictatorship in Brazil in 1967. “These singers were icons in that movement and in my career because they supported me in my first presentation at some places around the country”, said Margareth.
She already made several international tours exalting the black Brazilian culture, one of them along with David Byrne; a vocalist of The Talking Heads of the 90s. Furthermore, some of Margareth´s albums were launched exclusively in EUA, Japan, and Europe. She also sang along Jimmy Cliff when launched “Kindala”, an album that earned a nomination for a Grammy in 1993.
However, Margareth became more famous all over Brazil singing the hit “Dandalunda”, launched in 2001.
