From the “Morro da Mangueira” to the world

NATHAN 2With 21 years old , born in Rio de Janeiro at the Morro da Mangueira, Nathan began his studies at age 11 at the Cultural Center Project Cartola , a non-profit cultural organization today called Samba Museum in Mangueira, after an invitation from a community participant.

At first there was resistance to accept to participate in the project because it was such a distant reality, it made no sense to be part of the class, but due to his mother’s continued insistence, the boy accepted.

They only had violin lessons available at the time, so although there were lack of options, he embraced and developed a great love for the instrument over the years.

Throughout the studies, Nathan did private lessons also financed by the project, which prepared him to take a place in the Brazilian Youth Symphony Orchestra (OSB Youth), and then approved in 1st place for bachelor’s degree in violin at the Federal University of Rio January (UniRio).

After participating in the Eleazar de Carvalho contest in Campos do Jordao Festival, he won a place in the OSESP Academy, and therefore not concluded studies in UniRio.

With the participation in various festivals and competitions in Brazil and abroad, Nathan was then accepted to the University Mozarteum in Salzburg in Austria, one of the world’s best universities for stringed instruments, to have classes with one of the best violinist teachers, Esther Hoppe.

NATHANThe deadline to start studies is September 24th, which will be the day of travel. The classes at the Mozarteum University begin the following week.

“This dream is so close to come true, I can take the name of Brazil out and bring knowledge to pass on in concerts, recitals and master classes,” said Nathan hopeful.

Because it is a private institution, the student will need assistance to cover expenses during the four years. Here’s how you will be able to contribute with to make this dream a reality:
